Installing one from scratch means boring a clean second hole at the right height and reinforcing the strike plate so the bolt actually seats into solid wood or the door frame's structural member, not just trim.
Replacing an old deadbolt is its own kind of job. Salt air along the shore corrodes cheaper bolt mechanisms and cylinders faster than inland homes ever see, so a deadbolt that's stiff, grinding, or won't fully throw is a common call on older beach properties and rental units that see heavy seasonal turnover.
